Castle Cake

Here is the castle Cake I made for a friend. The cake was vanilla with cookie dough filling and french buttercream frosting. I found a castle cake tutorial over here and made the towers out of paper towel rolls and wrapping paper tubes. Then I "glued" cake cones inside them, covered them with fondant and covered sugar cones with pink fondants and pink sanding sugar crystals.

I was going to make the flags out of fondant but decided to use my silhouette machine pens to draw the birthday girls name and age on the flags before having the machine cut them out. I am starting to get the hang of that machine more and more. I just need more excuses/projects to play with it.
My husband engineered the 3 tall towers by screwing large dowels (2-3 inches in diameter) into the cake board and then wrapping them with tape so the tall towers wouldn't move and it could "ship" that way.
They came and got the cake and took it 3 hours away to the party so I crossed my fingers and hope it made it there ok.

I covered the cake board with blue fancy foil and then made a cobblestone path out of grey fondant. added a few boulders and small trees.
Pink fondant flowers with glitter. This was one of my first attempts at a really big castle cake. It turned out about 80% the way I invisioned it. Hopefully I can learn a lot from some of the mistakes and improve in the future, maybe some of those cake classes I am going to do will come in handy.
