Flower Pin Cushion

If you want a new pincushion and want to make your own head on over to TipNut they have a post for 30+ free pincushion patterns. I have had my old pincushion for about 15 years and it was one of the basic tomato ones you buy in the store. Believe me I have gotten my money's worth out of it and then some! So I decided to make a new one.
Just cut 2 pieces of your favorite fabic (about 8 inch diameter is what I used) sew them together with right sides facing each other, leaving a small opening to turn. I learned that if you use a zig zag stitch to sew around curves you wont have to make relief cuts when you turn it inside out.

Once it was turned right side out I stuffed it (over stuffed it really) and then hand sewed the opening closed. Next using embroidery thread I created the flower shape by starting in the center looping over the edge and poking back through the same spot. Repeat this all the way around the circle drawing the string tight as you go to create a flower shape. Then I grabbed a cute button and sewed that down over the center.
