Beehive Cake

This was the cake I made for my sisters shower, I made it using an 8 inch round cake pan and a small half circle cake pan I had (but you can use 2 8 inch rounds and carve the shape so you don't have to buy a special pan). I then carved the shape of the middle part of the beehive from the 8 inch round cake. The cake was a honey lemon cake.

Honey Lemon Cake

  • 1 cup white sugar

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1/4 cup honey

  • grated lemon zest

  • 2 Tblsp lemon juice

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease your pans or you can make cupcakes with this recipe too.
    In a medium bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and the milk. Combine flour and baking powder, add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Finally stir in the honey, lemon juice and lemon zest until batter is smooth. Pour or spoon batter into the prepared pan.
    Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven. For cupcakes, bake 20 to 25 minutes. Cake is done when it springs back to the touch and a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before carving the cake!!!!

    Once the cake was cooled, stacked and carved I frosted with the white chocolate ganache.
    I coverd the cake with homemade marshmellow fondant ( I colored it with lemon yellow and a touch of orange)
