Gum Paste Peony's

I was inspired by this cake
and decided I HAD to have it for my birthday, problem is the person who made this lives in Australia so I figured I would try to come up with something similar to it. I love how crisp and clean the edges of her cakes are even after covered in Fondant and set out to try to figure out her secrets.

I have been wanting to make a gum paste  peony FOREVER but have never had the time/need/courage to do so until I decided to Man Woman up and make one for my birthday cake. I have made gumpaste flowers (seen here and here ) but for some reason was intimidated by the peony. So searching the internet I came across several really helpful tutorials like this one here  and here  or even here and here.

The center part of the flower with the first few rows of petals attached hanging like bats to dry. You can see some of the petals drying on spoons in the background too.

All of the petals I made for each flower that were drying on a flower former prior to attaching them to the center portion of the flower.

My next adventure in gumpaste will be to make Gum paste Magnolias.
