Leaf cookies

I made these leaf cookies as place settings for our Thanksgiving Table. I used Cookie Crazie's Chocolate Cut out cookie recipe which uses BLACK COCOA POWDER!
Let me tell you it isn't easy to find. I used regular dark cocoa powder in the past and the cookies tasted fine, but I was in Bend a while back and there is a Kitchen and spice store that had black cocoa powder so I figured I would get some and give it a shot, the cookies taste great and the color of the cookies is of course much darker so that is great too.

To do the colors I made small 2 oz bottles of red, orange, yellow, green and brown royal icing and I added small amounts of each color in various places on the cookie, gently swirling the colors together as I went. They aren't perfect but I kind of like that they look like crisp fall leaves.  Once the base coat of royal icing dried I went back in with brown and drew the veins of the leaves.

Another great and easy way to make leaf cookies is with this tutorial over at Sweet Sugarbelle.

One for each of us a the table.
