Shortbread Cutout Cookies


I use this shortbread recipe from Joy of Baking   to make these cookies and they are super buttery and delicious. I have decorated them by dipping them half in chocolate or decorating them fancily with royal icing. I also love Sweet Sugar Belles Sugar Cookie Recipe


Instead of royal icing on these cookies I covered them with fondant. After baking and cooling the cookies I used the same cookie cutter to cut out fondant shape in red and trimmed off the head with a circle cookie cutter and "Tail". I brushed the cookie with corn syrup to adhere the fondant then I cut out the head in black with the lady bug cutter and cut the body off with the same circle cutter.  I shaped a "tail" by hand and used a small circle cutter to cut out the circles. All fondant pieces were adhered with a small amount of corn syrup diluted with vodka and brushed on with a paint brush (Specifically used for food purposes).

The nice thing about fondant decorated cookies is that they don't need to dry as long as royal icing covered cookies.
