Monster Truck Cake-Happy Birthday Dexter!

I made this monster truck cake for one of my sorority sisters sons 3rd birthday party. I found a great cake and tutorial over at Jessicakes the birthday boy loves the Gravedigger monster truck so I modeled the top after that truck.

A little thing called work got in the way of all of the fun so I had to make the cake topper truck out of styrofoam a few weeks early instead of rice krispies like I originally was going to do but I covered the styrofoam in all edible materials.

After cutting out the shapes I "frosted everything with black frosting (it took a LOT of black dye to get it that way)  and placed cut out V pieces of fondant onto the wheels for the tire tread.

I then covered each tire and the truck itself in black fondant ( I buy this one pre-colored or my hand might fall off from mixing and would look crazy all dyed black)

I used straws to hold up the truck and "glued" the wheels on with a layer of chocolate ganache mud
I used Jessicakes template and tutorial for the flames

Added the number three for the birthday boys age.
I painted the bumpers, hubcaps and windshield/window with edible silver petal dust mixed with water.
